Nowata Splits With Caney Valley Trojans on Senior Night
Brian McSweeney
Nowata took out the Caney Valley Trojans in a back-and-forth game on Tuesday night, 53-46.
In a game that saw minimal offense in the first quarter, both teams found a rhythm in the second. Talon Thompson got the offense started for Nowata late in the first quarter.
The game was tied at halftime, 20-20.
The Trojans were solid on defense throughout the game, shutting down passing lanes and causing many turnovers. Offensively they found their groove, with shots like this from Zac Longan early in the third quarter.
Nowata pulled away in the fourth quarter, held a double-digit lead before hanging on to win by six. This layup from Clint Harrington put the Trojans away.
The win for Nowata finishes off the regular season with a record of 14-8. Caney Valley finishes the regular season with an overall record of 5-17.
The Caney Valley girls won the night’s opening game, 45-23.
Nowata and Caney Valley will meet again in the district round of the 2A playoffs on Friday in Nowata. The girls game will tip-off first at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
