Bruins Fall in Thriller at Bixby

Bartlesville High baseball couldn’t quite finish the deal in trying to hand Bixby its first District loss of the season.

The Spartans hung on in a thrilling pitcher’s duel, 2-1 in 11 innings in Bixby on Tuesday night.

Barrett Merciez, Hunter Shea and the Bruin defense did everything they could to hold the Spartan offense down. Bixby got one unearned run off a double with one out in the 11th to win it.

The Bruin offense couldn’t muster enough to get over the hump. The only Bruin run of the game came off a great swing from Jaxon Zaun in the top of the sixth.

BHS had two runners cut down at the plate in the game, as well. Bixby made great plays on two attempts to score on sac flies.

One of the reason’s the game went so long was tremendous plays from the BHS defense. Kaden Romesburg threw a runner out at the plate for Bartlesville in the fourth. After a leadoff runner got on for Bixby in the eighth, this double-play from Cy Rigdon and Merciez kept the Spartans at bay.

The loss completes a sweep for Bixby, as Bartlesville drops to 6-6 in District action with two District games remaining against Union on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

BHS has non-District games against Collinsville and Oologah left on the schedule this week.
