OKWU Sweeps Southwestern

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball completed the sweep of Southwestern on Wednesday night at the Mueller Sports Center. The women pulled away late to win by 20 points, 82-62, and the men won their eighth straight, 75-67.
 
In the women’s game, it was high-scoring and competitive through the first three quarters. The Lady Eagles held a one-point lead at the half, 41-40, and led by one after three, 55-54. In the final 10 minutes, OKWU outscored Southwestern 27-8 to run away with a crucial conference win. This three-pointer from Sophia Regalado helped put Southwestern away
 
Regalado was one of six Lady Eagles to reach double figures, going for 10. Rashaan Smith led all scorers with 13.
 
The win for the Lady Eagles puts their overall record at 11-12 and 8-9 in the KCAC. They are now just one game out from a conference tournament spot.
 
On the men’s side, OKWU had some defensive issues stopping the outside shot, but it wasn’t enough to stop the red hot Eagles from soaring for their eighth straight win.
 
As a team, the Eagles shot 29-60 from the floor and only turned the ball over seven times. They held a 14 point lead at halftime, 37-23, and escaped for the eight point win. This Jaden Lietzke basket helped maintain the pace for OKWU.
 
Lietzke was one of four Eagles in double figures, he finished with 10 points. Isaac Stanek led the scoring with 16 points. Dylan Philip and Derrick Talton Jr. also finished in double figures.
 
The win for the Eagles keeps them tied with Friends University for the KCAC lead. They are 17-6 on the season and 14-3 in conference play.
 
OKWU basketball stays at home for the second game of the current homestand on Saturday for Sterling College. The women’s game will tip-off first at 1 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 3 p.m.
